Love a flawless gel manicure but dread the removal process? We get it—no one wants to soak their nails in harsh acetone or deal with drills. The good news? Your Livi mani has an easy, gentle way to remove your gel manicure at home—no acetone, no damage, and no drama. Here’s how to do it in just a few simple steps.
Step 1: Grab Your Oil
The secret to our damage-free removal? Cuticle oil. It helps loosen the gel and keeps your nails and cuticles nourished during the process. If you’re out of cuticle oil, don’t worry—any household oil (like coconut or olive oil) works in a pinch!
Generously apply the oil around your nails, focusing on the edges where the gel meets your natural nail. Don’t be shy—the more oil, the better.
Step 2: Gently Lift the Edge
Take a wooden cuticle stick and gently work it under the edge of your gel. Start at the side of the nail, where it’s easiest to get a little lift.
Pro Tip: Add a bit more oil as you go—this helps the gel slide off smoothly without tugging or damaging your natural nail.
Step 3: Keep Going Until It Slides Off
Work slowly and patiently, lifting the gel little by little while continuing to apply oil. With enough oil and a gentle touch, the gel should slide off easily—no harsh pulling or scraping required!
Step 4: Nourish Your Nails
Once the gel is off, treat your nails to a little extra love. Massage a few drops of oil into your nail beds and cuticles to restore hydration.
Pro Tip: If you’re planning your next Livi mani (because, of course you are), be sure to thoroughly clean off any oil before application. This helps your new gel adhere perfectly and last even longer.
P.S. do as we say, not as we do... I am, for one, known to just rip off my manicure when I’m ready for a new one. My nails are shockingly not that damaged at all (see pic!), but it’s still much better to follow the above steps. That said, if you ever need to.. Know you can just rip them off, no oil required.
